Virtual Examinations In High Resolution CT
x
High-resolution CT equipment now makes it possible to produce virtual, 3-D images that eliminate the need for traditional invasive methods. Using this new technology, we are offering two beneficial, non-invasive disease screening procedures. You may want to discuss one or both of them with your doctor.

Virtual Colonoscopy
While colon cancer claims the lives of over 55,000 men and women in the U.S. each year, continuing research is showing that early detection can prevent up to 80% of these deaths.

For many patients, the discomfort of traditional colonoscopy has been a deterrent to regular screening. We have installed new technology that provides a 3-D virtual fly-through of the colon. This eliminates the discomfort without sacrificing image quality. The Virtual Colonoscopy examination is quick, painless, and without anesthesia.

The exam normally takes less than 15 minutes. We take clear and precise images of your colon, enabling the Radiologist to look for polyps, which may be precursors to cancer. This screening requires colon cleansing preparation taken orally the day before. After the scan, patients can return immediately to their normal routine.

2D views allow for identification and measurement of abnormalities. The 3D Point-of-Interest view permits close evaluation of suspected pathology.
The 3D Transparent Wall view provides an anatomy map for further intervention. The Endoscopic View recreates an intra-luminal fly-through of the colon.
In most cases where problem areas are identified, an additional endoscopic procedure is necessary to remove abnormalities that can lead to cancer.

Virtual Angiogram (Artery Imaging)
Our high-resolution CT scanner is also capable of producing 3-D images of blockages in carotid arteries; aneurysms in the brain, abdomen and extremities; and provide much of the same information available from a traditional invasive angiogram. In many cases, it represents a significant improvement in diagnostic capability and more convenience for patients.
0 For example, this image was made to check on surgery performed earlier to repair an aneurysm in the large artery leading from the heart to the lower extremities.

Prior to virtual angiography, all angiogram procedures involved inserting a catheter into the artery of interest in order to inject contrast media in the area where images are required. Images like this are very clear and provide more details.

Virtual imaging procedures are already producing valuable medical images without the discomfort and the time needed for traditional diagnostic methods. While these procedures are an important addition to the diagnostic alternatives availalble to doctors, its application depends on the special requirements of each case.

Today, virtual procedures are clearly an option to discuss with your doctor.
