| Reimbursable indications for PET/CT examination as of Wednesday, June 23, 2004 |
| Single Pulmonary Nobule: | One, yes only one, questionable pulmonary nodule noted during any other exam (x-ray, lung scan, CT/MRI). The nodule must be specifically less than 4cm. | |||
| Diagnosis: | Used when cancer is suspected in an "approved area" but previous testing is inconclusive or in the case of lung nodules when there is more than one or the single nodule is larger than 4cm. | |||
| Staging: | Used when previous test(s) have indicated a known cancer in an "approved area" and the patient is being prepped for chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy. | |||
| Restaging: | Used when a patient with a known cancer in an "approved area" has completed chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy and the referring physician is contemplating additional treatment. Can also be used when during chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy the referring physician feels that the current therapy is inadequate and he wants to evaluate the patient's response to therapy. |
